Installation Begins on Batting Cages at Big Walnut

Saturday marked the beginning of principle construction of two new softball batting cages out at Big Walnut Sports Park. Preparation for Saturday's construction included obtaining poles from Hendricks Power and the drilling of nine large holes by Nathan Trissel from A Cut Above Construction.

Saturday's construction included the cutting of the poles and seating each one in a separate hole surrounded by concrete and dirt. Thanks to volunteers Andrew O'Hair, Brent Heavin, Alex Cox, Brian Carrington, Bill Tucker, Emily Hunsinger, and Steve Hunsinger for their efforts to seat the poles on a cold 20+ degree day out at Big Walnut.

The batting cage project is the realization of a vision dating back to 2018 when financing was procured from the Inaugural GYSA Outdoor Triathlon fundraiser. The project was put into high gear this season thanks to project leader Andrew O'Hair. On Wednesday March 10th, Andrew O'Hair and GYSA President Alex Cox received permission for the installation at the monthly Park Board meeting.

Construction is expected to be completed by April 1st.
